Short Summary (English)

Tough luck! Five-year-old Peter and his brother Hans drop the Christmas present for their parents in the middle of the road and, to make things even worse, it gets flattened by a car. Deeply distressed, they go to a Christmas fair and buy a lottery ticket with their remaining money. As luck would have it, they win a washing-machine. They are delighted, especially because a Santa Claus, who suddenly turns up when Peter is left alone with the prize for a moment, promises to have the machine transported to their place. But this Father Christmas does not keep his word. He vanishes with the washing-machine and Hans, convinced that it is theft, is thunderstruck.

Together with other children, and even Ferdinand, the clown, the brothers rush after the fleeing Santa Claus. Peter does take part in the hunt but he simply cannot believe that a Santa Claus steals things. For him, Santa Claus personifies friendliness, readiness to help and kindness. That is why he is convinced he will find the washing-machine at home. But it was a very close shave: the machine only just missed being carried off. Willi, the Santa Claus, did in fact have something shady up his sleeve. However; the other children, with Hans and Ferdinand the clown, pursue the runaway, corner him and finally talk him into delivering the washing-machine. Peter keeps his faith in the goodness of people.

Short Summary (German)

Der fünfjährige Peter und sein älterer Bruder Hans haben das Weihnachtsgeschenk für ihre Eltern beim Überqueren der Straße fallen gelassen, und es wurde von einem Auto breitgefahren. Traurig kommen sie auf einen Weihnachtsmarkt, kaufen für das letzte Geld ein Los und gewinnen eine Waschmaschine. Sie sind überglücklich. Als Peter einen Moment auf die Waschmaschine aufpassen soll, kommt ein Weihnachtsmann und verspricht, sie nach Hause zu bringen. Doch er verschwindet mit ihr, und Hans ist ob des vermuteten Diebstahls entsetzt. Mit anderen Kindern, Erwachsenen und sogar Clown Ferdinand nimmt er die Suche auf. Für Peter jedoch verkörpert der Weihnachtsmann das Gute. Er kann nicht glauben, dass er ein Dieb ist. Und er ist fest davon überzeugt, die Waschmaschine zu Hause vorzufinden. Dass es auch so kommt, ist das Verdienst der anderen, die den verfolgten, in die Enge gedrängten und schließlich bekehrten Weihnachtsmann überzeugen, die Waschmaschine abzuliefern - damit Peter seinen Glauben an das Gute nicht verliert.

Nell'attraversare la strada, Peter e suo fratello maggiore Hans, hanno fatto cadere il regalo natalizio per i genitori, che è stato travolto da una macchina. Tristi si recano al mercatino di Natale, acquistano con gli ultimi spiccioli un biglietto della lotteria e vincono una lavatrice. Chiamato a badare un attimo all'elettrodomestico, Peter è avvicinato da un Babbo Natale che gli promette di portargli a casa la lavatrice. Ma l'uomo si dilegua con la lavabiancheria e Hans è sconvolto dal presunto furto. Peter, convinto che Babbo Natale sia buono e non un ladro, è convinto di ritrovare la lavatrice a casa. Grazie all'aiuto degli altri, che non vogliono disilludere il piccolo Peter, Babbo Natale viene inseguito, messo alle strette e obbligato a restituire la lavatrice. (Italienisch)
