Short Summary (English)

The film features various aspects of the arts in the GDR and the position artists take vis-á-vis their surroundings, providing the audience with the chance to get a glimpse of literature, writers and their readers. We learn what the little town of Kamenz has to do with the German dramatist Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, why the 8th National Art Exhibition evoked such broad and profound interest and finally what the Chairman of the Association of Pictorial Artists has to say about his work.

Short Summary (German)

In diesem Film werden verschiedene Aspekte der Kunst in der DDR und der Haltung der Künstler zu ihrer Umgebung erkundet. Der Zuschauer erhält dabei Gelegenheit, Bekanntschaft zu schließen mit der Literatur, den Schriftstellern und ihren Lesern. Er erfährt, was die kleine Stadt Kamenz mit dem Dramatiker Gotthold Ephraim Lessing zu tun hat, warum die VIII. Kunstausstellung der DDR eine so große Publikumswertung hatte und was der Präsident des Verbandes Bildender Künstler über sein Schaffen zu sagen hat.
